A middle aged man has been cursed byelders for allegedly marrying his cousin.

The incident happened in Nyabiosi village Kisii South Sub County, Kisii County on Sunday.

It is alleged that the man identified as Momanyi married his cousin known as Osebe two years ago and they have been leaving in Nairobi since then.

"Momanyi impregnated Osebe while in class 7. They have been hiding in Nairobi since early 2016 and they recently returned home after we learnt about it," said Peter Mogendi, an elder. 

According to Mr Mogendi, the two will not be allowed to stay in the village because their marriage against the Gusii community’s customs.

“Our culture doesn’t allow related people to marry each other. Before the man impregnated her, their parents from both sides tried to separate them but in vain. They will have no peace in their marriage and they will have to look for a different place to live in and not in the village," he said. 

Area assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma confirmed the incident and said such marriages are not accepted in the region.

He assured that he will do everything possible to ensure the marriage doesn’t succeed. 

Reached for a comment, the man said he will never divorce his wife who she loves and they have sired a girl child together.
